Yellowstone's Absaroka Lodge, Gardiner, Montana

Lodging at Its Best, Overlooking Yellowstone National Park on the Banks of the Yellowstone River.
Yellowstone is the world's oldest National Park and its most spectacular jewel! More than 99% of the Park's 2.2 million acres still remain undeveloped. In addition to Old Faithful (Pictured on the Reservation Page), Yellowstone has more geysers and thermal features than can be found in the rest of the world.
Just inside the North Entrance only a few miles from The Absaroka Lodge is found Mammoth Hot Springs, pictured below. Many historic buildings from old  Fort Yellowstone can be found here.

The Terraces at Mammoth are characterized by their beautiful white thermal deposits called travertine. At the bottom of the picture is a man-made mound surrounding a small pond now camouflaged by vegetation. The Army built it to catch the thermal water flowing from some of the Hot Springs. They then channeled the flow to heat their barracks in the late 1800's.
Yellowstone's wildlife is just as fabulous as its thermal features. They freely roam in and out of the Park. Pictured below is a fine bull elk with his harem feeding on one of the lawns in the area.

As you can see from the other pages, Yellowstone's wildlife are frequent visitors of the Absaroka Lodge and Gardiner. Elk, buffalo, deer, bears and many other creatures share the streets of Gardiner with  guests throughout the seasons. The largest concentration of wildlife in the world's temperate zone can be found here, roaming unrestricted in and out of Yellowstone Park.
Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 and Gardiner followed shortly after with the coming of the railroad in 1883. Although the population was listed at 200 then, it had 21 saloons! Several historical buildings remain. However, they have been converted to other uses. All can be found within a few blocks from the Absaroka Lodge. The old jail can be found just across the Yellowstone River from the Lodge. Gardiner is a small friendly Western town and still hosts a rodeo in June along with many other activities during the year. Our friendly staff is there to see to all your enjoyment needs. Please feel free to call about activities both in Yellowstone Park and the surrounding communities.
